Indoor Gardening: Growing Plants Without Direct Sunlight!
Have you seen lots of beautiful indoor gardens but don’t have a place with adequete lighting to grow your own? Look no further! I have some great solutions, as someone who too faces this issue! In this post, I’m going to talk about using grow lights, and attaching hassle-free window ledges!
Using a Growlight
When I first purchased a grow light, I was highly skeptical of its abilities and was completely shocked! My plants are all green, and if anything grow faster than my window plants!
One key trait to look for in a grow light is that they are easily plugged in. Mine came with an adapter that I could plug straight into the wall. This was highly useful! Many come with USB plugs only, this may be difficult to use depending on your situation so make sure you check the plug type in the description before buying any lights!
They also have the potential to burn plants, so you’ll want to make sure they can extend high enough to prevent this.
You also will want one with a timer, mine is set to be on for 12 hours every day. I just leave it in the plants and it is on time every day! This is great, especially if you’re forgetful like me because it requires no intervention.
Consider what size you may be interested in, as some have more coverage than others. Determine what you wish to grow and how many plants. You may need one small grow light per plant or a large one for many in one place.
This is the one I have: it’s small but the perfect size for 10 mini plants. It’s affordable, and great if you’re just looking to try out your first grow light!
They are so versatile, and completely replace the need for sunlight! This means you can grow plants anywhere, even in a basement!
Easy Window Shelving
Do you have a small window or one with little to no space for storing plants? Some window shelves are the perfect solution for you!
They come in all shapes and sizes, and if you’re worried about putting holes in your walls or peeling the paint many cause no permanent damage! Mine sticks onto the window with suction-cups, so that I can take them down or move them at any point! They are highly stable, and seem very secure! They also have boarders which are great for preventing falls and water leaks! The link is included below!
Most of the shelving options are for fairly small plants, so if you’re looking for something larger you may have to consider other options. I’ve included some others below:
Hanging Baskets
Hanging baskets are super cute, and are much less bound by size! You can suspend them in front of your window by attaching them to a hook on your ceiling, or under the window on the frame!
There are many styles you can use, and it doesn’t have to be complicated! You can simply go to the dollar store and pick up a pot that already has the cords attached, and all you’ll have to do is put your plant in the pot and suspend it!
DIY Window Shelf
If you want the stability of a large wooden shelf, you may just have to DIY it yourself. This doesn’t have to be hard, you can simply buy a shelf from IKEA, Amazon, or even Walmart and place it along the window ledge!
Hopefully one of these solutions works for you! Comment down below with any questions or concerns!
